General Information:
Q: Does my registration fee include lift tickets?
A: No, your fee does NOT cover lift tickets.
Q: What does my registration fee cover?
A: Your registration fee pays for our coaches, the Buddy Werner League fees, Nashoba Valley mountain fees, and all other expenses relating to practices, races and administration.  All administration and coordination of the program is done by volunteers.
Q: How long is the season?
A: The season usually begins sometime in December depending on when Nashoba Valley officially opens.  The final championship race is usually scheduled in early March.
Q: Where and when do you practice?
A: We practice at Nashoba Valley in Westford, MA on Thursday evenings.  Practices begin at 6:30 and end at 8:30 for all participants except the 8 and under group that finishes at 8PM.
Q: Where and when do you have races?
A: Our races are held on Sunday mornings.  Registration begins at 8AM at the host mountain.
Q: Are there any requirements to participate in NVSC?
A: Yes, but not many.  Aside from fulfilling the initial registration requirements, racers must be able to load and unload independently from the chairlift, racers must wear helmets, and parents must commit to volunteering in at least one race - no experience necessary.  Other details regarding race-day rules can be found in our Survival Guide.
Q: Who runs the program?
A: NVSC could not survive without our dedicated parent volunteers.  Our Trustees coordinate the program, but our parent volunteers are who make the practices and races run smoothly!
Q: Where can I get more information about NVSC?
A: Along with the information on this website, our Survival Guide is a great resource for information.

Practice Night Information:
Q: What time should I arrive on practice nights?
A: You can arrive as early as 6:00PM to purchase your lift ticket and dress for practice that begins promptly at 6:30.
Q: What do I do when I get there?
A: Make sure you’ve purchased your lift ticket for the evening or you have your Nashoba season pass (if you’ve purchased one for the season). Then refer to the list in the Race Shack or before practice, on the team website, that has your name and your coach's name. The 8 and under racers (J6 Group) will also be put into named groups - e.g. "hats", "goggles", "mittens". After your equipment is on (plan on arriving with most of your sk i clothing/ equipment on as there will be limited space in the Race Shack), find your group by looking for the posted signs at the base of the mountain. Most coaches bring their groups up the mountain promptly at 6:30, so please arrive on time.
Q: Where/when do I get lift tickets for practice nights?
A: If you haven’t purchased a Nashoba season pass, lift tickets can be purchased at Nashoba’s ticket window adjacent to the main lodge.
Q: How do I know what group I'm in?
A: A list will be posted in the race shack each week with the racer's name and their group/coach.  Quite often racers are switched to different groups based on their ability in the beginning of the season.  Signs will be posted in the snow at the base of the mountain at the start of practice so that the racers know where to meet their group.
Q: When does practice end?
A: Practice ends at 8:30PM for racers 9 years and older.  The 8 and under racers (J6) end at 8PM.
Q: How do I know if practice is cancelled?
A: Quite often, when there is no snow in your backyard, there is plenty at Nashoba Valley!  As long as the mountain is open and safe for our racers, we hold practice.  Our Announcements Page will clearly announce any changes in our schedule by 4PM on Thursdays.  We also try to send out emails to the group as early as possible if there is a cancellation.

Race Day Information:
Q: What time should I arrive on race day?
A: Registration begins at 8AM on race day.  An early arrival will ensure that you will have ample time for the course inspection at 8:30AM.
Q: Where/when do I get lift tickets for race days?
A: If you haven’t purchased a Nashoba season pass, lift tickets can be purchased at Nashoba’s ticket window adjacent to the main lodge. Tickets for away races can be purchased at 8AM at the host mountain.
Q: How do I get to the other mountains?
A: Go here for directions.
Q: How long do races last?
A: Regular season races vary in length.  They begin at 9AM and typically end by around 1PM.  Championship races last longer.
Q: How do I know if a race is cancelled or changed?
A: There is rarely a change in our race schedule; however, our Announcements Page will clearly announce any changes as soon as they are known.  We also try to send out emails to the group as early as possible if there is a cancellation.  We recommend checking your email and the website on Saturday evening to confirm that there has not been a last minute change or cancellation.
