Hello to our returning members and new members:
Welcome to the Nashoba Valley Ski Club! NVSC is a volunteer, parent run ski club based out of the Nashoba Valley Ski area in Westford, MA. As a non-profit organization, we maintain the goal of providing a fun environment for kids to develop racing skills. We do this by coordinating with the Eastern Massachusetts Buddy Werner League organization, Nashoba Valley Ski Area, and several other ski clubs around the region. Last year, our J6 racers (those 8 and under) were league champions and we’re looking forward to building on that success across all divisions this coming season. We’re also excited to be hosting the league championship this coming March.
Registration for the 2011-2012 season will begin on October 12, 2011. Registration applications can be mailed and postmarked no earlier than October 12. Available slots in the program are limited, so please get your registrations in right away, starting on October 12. Registrations must be postmarked by November 15. You will receive an email with a club roster confirming your registration by December 1st. Practices are held on Thursday evenings, starting when Nashoba Valley Ski Area opens in December. The races are held on Sunday mornings and begin after the first of the year.
The NVSC website, www.nvscracing.com, is the primary way for club members to stay informed about registration, practices, races, results, standings, special events, and other items you may need to get started for the season and stay informed throughout. Be sure to check out the club’s “survival guide” found on the website, an essential guide to all aspects of NVSC, and also sign up for important email announcements as well as the online message board.
On the tactical side of our events, volunteering is mandatory for the families of all racers and is essential to race operations. Without parent involvement and participation, races cannot be run efficiently and safely, nor can the team operate effectively. A “mandatory work assignment” form is included as part of the registration package and must be completed and returned in order for your registration to be complete.
Please do not hesitate to approach any trustee if you have any questions. These volunteers spend a significant amount of time working on initiatives to ensure the practices and races are successfully run and that the long-term goals of the club are met. Along these lines, we will be recruiting core volunteers for the future officers of the club so if you’re interested in helping out and learning more about how the club operates, feel free to ask any trustee.
And don’t forget to look for other fun activities throughout the season including our annual parent/child race, home race pot luck lunches, championship cookout, and banquet.
Finally, NVSC has revised the helmet requirement for this coming season. While helmets have always been a NVSC and league requirement, a change is being made to help better protect our racers. In brief, for safety reasons, no soft ear flap helmets will be allowed this coming season for J5+ racers (10 and older) and complete hard shell ski helmets will be required in order to practice and race with NVSC. It is recommended but not required for J6 (8 and under) racers. If anyone has questions or need additional clarification on the type of helmet required, please do not hesitate to contact a trustee.
We’re all looking forward to seeing our returning members and welcoming many new members this season.
Ski fast, ski safe, and have fun!
