About Us
The Nashoba Valley Ski Club (NVSC) is a member of the Eastern Massachusetts Buddy Werner
League (EMBWL) and operates under its rules and bylaws. The
membership of EMBWL also includes Bradford,
Bogastow,
Prospect Hill, and Ski
Ward.
We’re a youth alpine race club that provides skiers from grades
1-12 the opportunity to train and compete in slalom and giant
slalom races against racers from other regional teams. No prior
race experience is required; however, all team members must be
able to ride the ski lifts unassisted with other racers and ski
all terrain at Nashoba Valley safely and with a degree of comfort.
NVSC is a learn-to-race program, not a learn-to-ski program.
As an independent, non-profit, parent run race club that functions
separately from the operations of the
Nashoba Valley Ski Area, we
depend upon our families to assist in team operations. All
parents/guardians are required to work at two or more races during
the season, assisting in race logistics and other operational
needs. No experience is necessary and it’s a great way to see how
races are run.
Our goal is to improve the ski racing skills of our members. While
the development of life-long skiing skills and competition is
encouraged, the main emphasis is on having a fun, safe, and
positive experience for all. Practices are held on Thursday
evenings at Nashoba
Valley Ski Area in Westford. Practices run from 6:30-8:30pm
except fore the U8 group (6-7 year olds) that finish at 8:00.
Races take place on Sunday mornings at Nashoba and other
league-member ski areas. Race registration begins at 8:00am on
Sundays with races beginning at 9:00am. Place ribbons are given to
the top finishers in each group at ever race with all U8 (6-7 year
olds) receiving either a place or participant ribbon at each race.
The season climaxes with the annual league championship race where
all teams come together for a daylong event and great cookouts!
NVSC holds registration in October with all pertaining information
posted on this site. Because we are a large group, all
correspondence regarding schedules and announcements are via the
website and/or email. Please sign up for important email updates
on the team website so you’re not left out. Much information about
the team can be found throughout the website and don’t hesitate to
contact any trustee if you have any questions.
Finally, in addition to weekly races, NVSC also has other fun
activities throughout the season including our season kick-off
party, annual parent/child race, home race pot luck lunches,
championship cookout, and end of season banquet.
Ski fast, ski hard, and have fun!
